Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's New Omnimovement Feature is Here to Stay

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's innovative movement feature, Omnimovement, will be mandatory for all players, even those preferring a traditional multiplayer experience. Omnimovement, revealed last month at the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct, allows players to sprint and dive backwards, sideways, and diagonally, introducing new tactical possibilities. This feature will be integral to all three game modes—campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies—and will eventually be added to Warzone post-launch.

As a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and the recent Black Ops Cold War, Black Ops 6 offers plenty of content for fans. Set in the early 90s during the Gulf War, it will see the return of characters like Russell Adler and franchise icon Frank Woods. The game will launch with 16 original 90s-themed multiplayer maps and two full Zombies maps, marking the return of round-based Zombies for the first time since 2020's Black Ops Cold War.

In the debut episode of the Official Call of Duty Podcast, senior director of communications Stephanie Snowden confirmed that the Omnimovement system cannot be turned off in any game mode, including multiplayer. While some fans might be disappointed by this, Snowden emphasized that players will have control over another feature: Intelligent Movement. This system, turned off by default, allows players to customize movement controls, minimizing button or key inputs for actions like sprinting and climbing, thus enhancing smoothness in multiplayer navigation.

Players accustomed to recent Call of Duty movement mechanics might find the mandatory Omnimovement challenging, especially at higher competitive levels. Disabling Omnimovement could place players at a significant disadvantage against those utilizing the full range of directional movement. Additionally, varying movement systems could create balancing issues. The mandatory inclusion of Omnimovement in Black Ops 6 is reminiscent of the jetpack system introduced in Advanced Warfare and featured in Black Ops 3 and Infinite Warfare.
