Release of GTA-Style Game "The Precinct" Delayed from August 2024 Launch

The development team behind "The Precinct," a top-down, police-based action game often compared to Grand Theft Auto, has delayed its release, moving it from the initially announced date of August 15, 2024. Although the game, reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto, is still expected to launch this year, no new release date has been provided.

Announced in May, "The Precinct" is set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game follows rookie police officer Nick Ordell Jr. and features gameplay similar to the Grand Theft Auto series. However, instead of causing chaos, players will focus on maintaining order and combating procedurally generated crimes.

On July 17, the five-person team at independent studio Fallen Tree Games Ltd and publisher Kwalee announced on the game's official Steam page that they decided to delay the release due to unspecified obstacles. The team emphasized their commitment to delivering a high-quality gameplay experience, now targeting a fall 2024 release without specifying a date. They mentioned that the extra time would be used to fix bugs and fine-tune the gameplay to meet their standards, which would not have been possible by the original release date.

In conjunction with the delay announcement, the development team released a new trailer showcasing "The Precinct" and its gameplay elements, including gun combat, driving, and helicopter flying. The trailer subtly reflects the delay, featuring a scene where Officer Ordell botches a mission and is reprimanded by the chief, who sends him back to the academy with the remark, "Too much, too soon."
